How Tack Entertainment shipped STARCLASH to Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest at a third the file size with Amplium
Who is Tack Entertainment
Based in Hollywood and Tokyo, Tack Entertainment creates first-person immersive animation where you become the protagonist of the story. STARCLASH, directed by Jack Yoshida, is a 33-minute immersive animated experience you watch seated, with no controllers, on Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest. What Tack needed to solve
STARCLASH had to look its best on two very different headset families at once, and it had to ship as a download. Immersive animation is unforgiving: flat gradients, night scenes, and stage lighting reveal banding and blocking the moment an encode gets too aggressive. Tack needed the master encoded to a quality high enough to hold up on both Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest, without a file so large it became slow to download or hard to play back on a headset.
How Amplium encoded it
To reduce an immersive video's file size without losing visible quality, encode the ProRes master to MV-HEVC for Apple Vision Pro and side-by-side stereo for Meta Quest, and allocate bits by scene complexity instead of holding a fixed bitrate. That is how Amplium brought STARCLASH down to about a third the size while keeping it visually indistinguishable from the source.
Tack delivered a finished, high-resolution immersive master in 10-bit HDR with spatial audio. Amplium built both headset deliveries from that single master, applying the right VR180 projection and spatial audio to each.
Because the pipeline optimizes quality per bit instead of applying a fixed preset, the same master came back both smaller and cleaner, rather than trading one for the other.
The result
Measured against the original ProRes source across the full film, the Amplium encode stays within the threshold where a difference stops being visible, so it is visually lossless. At the same time, the Apple Vision Pro deliverable comes in at about a third of the size of the studio's distribution master.
The quality holds where content is hardest. Through the film's most demanding sequences the Amplium encode stayed visually clean, while the studio's own master, held to a fixed bitrate, showed visible degradation in its hardest stretch. That is what allocating bits by scene complexity buys you. For a headset title both size and fidelity matter at once: a file about a third the size downloads faster and plays back more reliably, and the higher fidelity keeps the animation's flat gradients, night skies, and stage lighting free of banding and blocking. Tack distributes STARCLASH as a download, so a file about a third the size is a direct win for the studio and its viewers.
