Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This Privacy Policy explains how Amplium, Inc. ("Amplium", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use our website at theamplium.com, the Amplium dashboard, and our encoding, hosting, DRM, and streaming services (together, the "Services"). It also covers people who watch videos that our customers host and stream with Amplium.
If you have questions, contact us at info@theamplium.com.
1. Information we collect
Account information
You sign in to Amplium with Sign in with Apple. Apple shares with us a unique user ID, your email address, and your name if you choose to share it. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we receive a private relay address instead of your real email address.
When you set up or edit your profile, we also collect the name, email address, and profile picture you enter.
Content you upload
When you use the Services, we store the content you provide:
- videos, thumbnails, titles, descriptions, and other video details
- DRM certificates, keys, and secrets that you upload or generate in the dashboard to protect your content
- API keys that you create (we store only a hash of each key, not the key itself)
Payment and subscription information
Payments on our website are processed by Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe's pages, and we do not receive or store your full card number. We receive and store your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, your plan, subscription status, trial and billing period dates, and your storage and streaming usage. We share your email address and Amplium user ID with Stripe to create your customer record.
Viewing data
When anyone plays a video that is hosted on Amplium, whether on our watch pages, in our apps, or in another player that uses a streaming link, our delivery service records a random session ID, the video, the parts of the video that were streamed, and the time. These records do not contain the viewer's name, email address, or IP address, and we do not use them to identify viewers. We use them to show creators viewing statistics for their own videos and to calculate streamed minutes for billing.
Website usage data
We use Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics to understand how people use our website. They collect information such as the pages you visit, the buttons you click (for example "Sign in with Apple" or a plan button), your browser and device type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. We do not send your name or email address to these services.
Like most online services, our hosting and delivery providers also process technical information such as IP addresses, browser type, and request times to deliver the Services and keep them secure. We keep server logs to operate and troubleshoot the Services.
Information you send us
When you fill in the "Tell us about your footage" form, we receive your email address and the details you provide about your footage and delivery needs. When you email us, we receive your message and email address.
2. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage your account, and sign you in on our website and in the Amplium Encoder Mac app
- encode, package, encrypt, store, host, and stream your content
- process payments, manage subscriptions and free trials, and calculate usage-based fees
- show you analytics about your own videos
- reply to your requests and send you service and billing messages
- understand and improve our website and Services
- protect the Services and our users, and prevent fraud and abuse
- comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
3. Information that is public
When you make a video public, its title, description, and thumbnail are shown on its watch page together with your name and profile picture, and anyone can see them. Your profile picture is stored at a public web address. Streaming links and public files can be opened by anyone who has the link.
4. How we share information
We share personal information only as described here:
- Service providers that process information for us: Apple (Sign in with Apple), Google (Firebase Authentication and Google Analytics), Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (file storage and video delivery), Amazon Web Services (servers and databases), Vercel (web analytics), Formspree (website forms), and DiceBear (default profile images, which receive your Amplium user ID to create an image).
- Legal reasons, when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Amplium, our users, or others.
- Business transfers, if Amplium is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We will ask the new owner to respect this Privacy Policy.
- With your consent or at your direction.
Our website links to other services, such as Calendly for booking a call and the App Store. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.
5. International transfers
Amplium and our service providers process information in the United States and other countries. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws where you live. When we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps required by applicable law to protect it.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our providers use cookies and browser storage for these purposes:
- Sign-in: Firebase Authentication keeps you signed in by storing a session in your browser.
- Language: when you choose a language, we store your choice in a cookie and in browser storage for one year.
- Analytics: Google Analytics sets cookies to measure how our website is used. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block sign-in storage, you will not be able to stay signed in.
7. How long we keep information
- We keep account information while your account is open.
- We keep your content until you delete it or your account is closed. You can delete individual videos in the dashboard at any time. If your subscription ends, your hosted videos are hidden from playback, and we may delete content that remains after that, as described in our Terms of Service.
- We keep billing records for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
- We keep viewing data for as long as we need it for analytics and billing.
Deleted information may remain in backups for a limited time.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, such as encrypted connections and access controls. No service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of your information.
9. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can see and change your name, email address, and profile picture in the dashboard settings.
- Deletion: to close your account and delete your personal information, email info@theamplium.com from the email address on your account. We may keep some information when the law requires it, for example billing records.
- Other requests: depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of your information, ask us to delete or restrict it, or object to how we use it. Email us, and we will answer as the law requires. We may need to confirm your identity first.
- Apple: you can stop using Sign in with Apple for Amplium in your Apple Account settings.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with data protection authorities, you can also complain to your local authority.
10. Children
The Services are for creators and businesses and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the minimum age required by the law where they live. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. If we make material changes, we will tell you by email or with a notice in the Services before they take effect.
